The FIFA World Cup 2026 features an expanded format with 48 teams split into 12 groups of 4. Each team plays three group-stage matches.
Qualification from the group stage: The top two teams from each group advance automatically. The eight best third-place finishers across all 12 groups also qualify, bringing 32 teams into the Round of 32.
Points system: Win = 3 pts Β· Draw = 1 pt Β· Loss = 0 pts. Teams level on points are separated by: goal difference β goals scored β head-to-head record β fair play points β drawing of lots.
The group stage runs from 11 June to 4 July 2026 across all 16 host venues in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
